Students of the MA Programme in Democracy and Human Rights participated in the observation of the local elections held on 26 March 2022. This came as part of the course “Elections” offered by the program. The course was developed in accordance with the policy of Muwatin Institute for Democracy and Human Rights, which seeks to increase community interaction with the university. The institute is registered as a local observer in the Central Elections Commission. In this context, students will examine elections between theory and practice, the relationship between elections and democracy, the role of elections in local communities, and the constitutional elements of elections. The course will also include site visits and meetings to observe elections in action.

In this course, students engage in the electoral process, its observation, and discussions about it through open dialogues with former mayors and professional and technical analysts. In addition, they learn about the electoral process from the perspective of a political and social analyst. Students took part in the monitoring process for the second phase of the 2022 local elections in three governorates, Ramallah, Bethlehem, and Hebron. They also prepared reports on the monitoring process in preparation for submitting a final report to the Central Elections Commission.
